I LOVE the bread from Backer Back.
Their loaves are imported from Germany par-baked so they are finished here at their local shop.
There is something especially good about bread doughs made with that German grains and water.
There are yummy pastries and rolls and cookies too, but I heartily recommend going for the seedy, grainy, rye breads in all the different varieties.
A gift from the Gods
Being an Englishman and having lived in Switzerland for a number of years; I was horrified when I moved to California in November and found that the selection of baked goods leaves A LOT to be desired.
I recently moved to an apartment just off Marconi and was incredibly excited to see a bakery sporting a German name. Needless to say I was not disappointed on my first visit when I found they stock just about everything I could have hoped for. Tomatenstrudel, Brotchen... it's truly a fantastic place with deliciously fresh high quality goods. I can say for sure that I have quickly become a regular customer at this wonderful little bakery!
Best Bread Ever!!
I have been waiting 40 years to buy fresh and tasty German bread here in Sacto. The triangle bread is "over the top" delicous and my personal favorite AND packed with 11grams of whole grain fiber per slice.! It's fantastic for sandwiches as well as toasted (really brings out the nutty flavor!). They also sell amazing Swiss jams for only $3.75/jar....a steal! If you haven't visited this bakery it's like none other in Sacto and is well worth a drive!
Excellent Bread
We anxiously awaited the opening of Backer Back. We are from back East and have had the good fortune to have always had excellent bakeries near where we lived. They had European bakers who made the old fashioned bread in the old fashioned way. When we moved out here we tried all of the local bakeries and finally my wife started baking her own bread with imported flour in order to get the quality we had enjoyed back East. Now my wife can relax and we enjoy the bread of Backer Back. We are regular customers at the bakery and if we should miss our trip to the bakery, we can always get some at Whole Foods as long as they aren't sold out.
Soooooooo Good! Real German Bread!
I grew up in Germany where we have an incredible selections of fresh and whole grain breads...and I have never found that same kind of bread (I've lived in the states for over 20 years) until I went to BackerBack. WOW what a find! Not only is it so good for you but it's absolutely delicious! I will have to make a weekly trip from downtown....and it's so worth it!!!
If you like bread and pastries this is the place to go. I buy bread here all the time and i recommend this bakery to all my friends. Its not very big but you get what you want and the staff is friendly as well. Get a cup of coffee and try the croissant with hazelnut chocolate filling, hmmmm you will come back for more. Tell me if im wrong.
